Innovative Strategy to Popularize New, Alternative Natural Energy Source

The brief:

How to commercialize Solar Photovoltaic Technology as an alternative, renewable source of energy

PRISM Research Findings:

High unit cost and unfamiliarity with new technology affecting willingness to pay and consumer demand

PRISM Recommendations:

Multi-segmented approach targeting the following:-
  1. People in remote areas with affordability where the cost of acquiring electricity is higher than the cost of installing SPV facility
  2. Manufacturers of hybrid power generating units
  3. Builders and contactors to include it as a package deal for housing complexes
  4. Manufacturers of toys, children’s games and novelty items for SPV operated charging systems
  5. Cycle repair shops, auto tyre repair shops to offer charging at a price to rural population for charging batteries to run household electricity needs.

Result:

Household use of SPV increased in remote areas by 200%, in industrial hybrid power generation by 1000%, in toys and novelty items by 300% over past 3 years.
